(FamilyConservationPAC.com) – Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida was blasted by the Trump campaign and presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy for calling Trump followers “listless vessels.”

The Hill received a comment from Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung:

“DeSantis is now using the same, failed playbook as Hillary Clinton.” He alluded to Ms. Clinton, “He called all Trump supporters ‘listless vessels’ just like Crooked Hillary did in 2016 when she called us ‘Deplorables’.”

He added, “What was the outcome? He needs to start listening to the American people instead of his establishment handlers when they want him to return home.”

The GOP presidential hopeful Mr. Ramaswamy, who trails Mr. DeSantis in the polls, responded to the governor’s remarks by stating that “the real danger to our movement is the rise of ‘listless-vessel’ robot politicians who blindly follow the commands of their Super PACs,” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on August 20.

He stated of President Trump, “A movement can’t be about the personality of one individual.” The movement must center on what the participants are attempting to accomplish on behalf of the American people, and this effort must be grounded in moral principles.”

“Because that’s not going to be a durable movement,” he continued, “if you’re not rooted in principle if all we are is listless vessels that are just supposed to follow… whatever happens to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning.”

The Real Strategy Behind the Trump Indictments

Mr. DeSantis has received criticism for the comments from other pro-Republicans as well.

Republican Party of Florida Chairman Joe Gruters wrote on X on August 19 that “Americans supporting President Trump & advancing the MAGA movement are not ‘listless vessels’, but are patriots who want their country back.”

“These patriots have a President and now a candidate who is willing to not only protect them but fight for them while facing unending brutal attacks for the first time. Republicans who don’t comprehend it risk having their political careers cut short,” he added.

The Make America Great Again Inc. PAC slammed Mr. DeSantis and demanded that the Florida governor “immediately apologize for his disgraceful insult.”

“Ron DeSantis is coming out in full force. DeSantis is reacting angrily toward the supporters who helped him win the governorship because the pressure of finishing third in the polls is getting to him,” Ms. Leavitt wrote in an X post on August 19.

DeSantis is behind in the polls.

While Mr. Ramaswamy is closing the distance to take second place in the GOP primary polls, Mr. DeSantis’s remark about “listless vessels” comes as he trails President Trump in those surveys.

According to data from opinion poll research company FiveThirtyEight, as of August 20, President Trump had the support of 54.3 percent of voters in the Republican primary polls, while Mr. DeSantis had the support of 14.8 percent of voters.

Support for President Trump has increased over the previous few months, while Mr. DeSantis’ popularity has largely declined. On February 18, support for both candidates was nearly similar, with Mr. DeSantis receiving 38.8% and President Trump receiving 40.8%.

However, President Trump now enjoys more than three times the governor of Florida’s level of favor.

Third-placed During this time, the distance between Mr. Ramaswamy and Mr. DeSantis has decreased.

Ramaswamy didn’t officially declare his candidacy till late February. He increased his popularity between February 25 and August 20 from 2.5 to 8.4 percent.

The DeSantis campaign backed the governor of Florida’s remarks.

“The dishonest media refuses to disclose the facts—Donald Trump and some congressional backers are ‘listless vessels.’ Why? Because Trump and DC insiders believe he deserves your vote,” Bryan Griffin, the campaign’s communications secretary,” wrote on X.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) asserted that Mr. DeSantis’ remarks were a poor political choice.

In an interview with Fox News, she remarked, “I don’t know why someone running for president would cast down half of the voters and label them ‘listless vessels’ because they favor the past president. I really don’t understand why Ron DeSantis would act that way while his poll ratings are plummeting.”

GOP Primary Discussion

The first Republican primary debate, slated for August 23 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is now being prepared for the GOP contenders.

The participation of Mr. DeSantis, Mr. Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Mrs. Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, and Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota has been confirmed.

They have also agreed to support the final party nominee by signing the Republican National Committee promise.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie and vice president-elect Mike Pence have said they would contribute positively to the discussions.

President Trump, the front-runner in the GOP race, recently declared on Truth Social that he would “not be doing the debates.”

The absence of President Trump from the debate has drawn criticism. “We don’t live in a monarchy, yet Donald Trump is acting like he’s waiting for his coronation,” ex-state representative Melissa Blasek of New Hampshire remarked.

The finest conservative candidate must be chosen in this primary. Still, regrettably, Trump is too frightened to defend his record to Republican voters.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Mr. Ramaswamy, who had earlier said that he expected to see President Trump on the debate stage, added that he is “OK” if the former president avoids the first three rounds.
