VIDEO: Search Continues For People Who Fell into River After Baltimore Bridge Collapse

(—Following a ship impact early Tuesday that resulted in the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, crews are looking for those who fell into the ocean.

Vehicles and persons fell into the Patapsco River as a result of the collision and subsequent collapse, which happened at around 1:30 a.m., according to Breitbart News.

Chief James Wallace of the Baltimore Fire Department reports that personnel are looking for multiple victims. According to People, he said that two people had been saved after the event.

He said, “We are still very much in an active search and rescue posture at this point and we will continue to be for some time. We have a large area that we have to search. This includes on the surface of the water, subsurface, as well as on the deck of the ship itself.”

“We believe at this point we may be looking for upwards of seven individuals. That’s the latest information we have,” he said, adding that it was “a very large incident.”

The instant the ship struck the bridge and the time the structure collapsed into the river below is captured on camera:

A search and rescue chopper can be seen in further footage looking for people who are perhaps still in the water:

Breitbart News reports that the MV Dali had several issues before the collision. It had lost power a few minutes earlier.

A WRAL video clip shows that the ship’s lights flickered on and off before colliding with a portion of the bridge:

When the tragedy happened, the ship was apparently sailing toward Sri Lanka. Fox 43 reports that authorities are looking for workers from a construction company that was fixing potholes on the bridge.

Following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) stated on social media shortly after five in the morning, “My office is in close communication with U.S. Transportation @SecretaryPete Buttigieg, Baltimore @MayorBMScott, @BaltCoExec, and @BaltimoreFire as emergency personnel are on the scene.”

“I have declared a State of Emergency here in Maryland and we are working with an interagency team to quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden Administration.” he added in a subsequent post.
