These are a few instances of the atrocities carried out by the violent Venezuelan gang known as Tren de Aragua.
TDA was founded in the Venezuelan state of Aragua, and its members have followed the stream of people from that country who have entered the country illegally amid the border crisis that President Joe Biden has instigated.
The gang is associated with the Nicolás Maduro government in Venezuela and frequently serves as enforcers. They oversee most of the criminal underground and its money-making operations.
Under the Biden administration, Venezuelans have made up one of the greatest groups of individuals who have entered the southern border illegally.
Many had left Venezuela directly, but others fled the country’s economic collapse and now reside in neighboring Latin American nations. TDA members left with the first wave.
For instance, according to El País, Chile’s Justice Ministry has charged the criminal group with being involved in the kidnapping and murder of a former Venezuelan soldier in Santiago in 2021.
In 2022, the public knew little about TDA; nonetheless, law enforcement and mainstream media had noted TDA members’ recent actions.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection source claims that although the Biden administration was informed of the growing threat posed by TDA, the matter was not seriously considered.
Concerns regarding the increasing number of Latin American gangs operating in the United States have been compounded by reports of undocumented immigrants who have joined terrorist organizations and exploited the border situation.
“It’s frustrating that no matter the indicators we have about possible TDA members or affiliates, the emphasis on processing, and not enforcement, remains the same. Why is that?” the source told Blaze News.
“We don’t need direct derogatory information like we would for terrorists. These are gang members who exhibit obvious sings of affiliation, … but it’s fear of action. Fear of appearing to be wrong where Trump was right,” the source added.
TDA shares many characteristics with El Salvador’s MS-13, such as the violence inflicted on victims. Still, its members do not cover themselves in tattoos from head to toe, in contrast to the gang that terrorized the nation for decades.
Although some TDA members have tattoos, they are typically hidden or appear generic.
On X in April, Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol Jason Owens cautioned, “Be on the lookout for this gang.”
It is the most potent in Venezuela, renowned for extortion, drug trafficking, murder, sex crimes, and other violent crimes,” the statement reads, showcasing an undocumented immigrant who was detained by the Border Patrol in Texas and had TDA tattoos.

According to NBC Chicago, there are already over 100 criminal cases involving suspected TDA members in Illinois and Indiana, according to local law enforcement agencies.
Charges about guns and drugs have resulted in the arrest of at least two members in Cook County.
Because Venezuela doesn’t share its criminal histories with Customs and Border Protection, if any, the “vetting” process that the Biden administration frequently brags about to assure Americans about the persons it is letting within the U.S. is hindered.
TDA members who are profiting from the border crisis and Democratic governments with lax anti-crime laws make for a dangerous combination.
