Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas IMPEACHED!

( – Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security, was impeached by the House on Tuesday night by a slim vote of 214 to 213; this makes him the first cabinet member to be impeached in nearly 150 years.

Despite quitting before the vote, William Belknap, President Ulysses S. Grant’s Secretary of War, was impeached by the House in 1876.

The Senate cleared Belknap, a decision that will undoubtedly be repeated if Mayorkas’ impeachment is not stopped correctly.

Nevertheless, Republicans can argue that in a split Congress, they seized a unique chance to hold the Biden administration responsible for what might prove to be the decisive issue in the 2024 race.

“Secretary Mayorkas’s willful refusal to enforce federal law created an unprecedented crisis at our southern border and left innocent Americans to pay the price,” Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) told Breitbart News in an exclusive statement. “Because Mayorkas failed to do the honorable thing by resigning, House Republicans fulfilled our Constitutional duty by voting to impeach.”

The verdict on Tuesday night comes after House Republicans’ attempt to impeach Mayorkas last week was unsuccessful by a single vote, following the arrival of Rep. Al Green (D-TX), a congressman who used a wheelchair, in the House chamber from a Washington emergency ward.

Green’s vote was crucial in preventing impeachment, something Republicans had not anticipated.

Following the much-needed return of Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), who has been in Louisiana since December undergoing cancer treatment, House leadership proceeded with Tuesday night’s vote.

If a recall election for former Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY) is held on Tuesday in New York’s Third Congressional District, Mayorkas would be safe.

Despite the overwhelming support of Republicans for the measure, Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO), Tom McClintock (R-CA), and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) voted with Democrats once more to oppose impeaching the troubled secretary.

The fact that Gallagher decided not to run for reelection to Congress following last week’s vote against impeachment indicates how unpopular that stance is.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA), the most vocal and tenacious advocate for removing Mayorkas from office, has won her case with the impeachment.

She and her allies contend that Mayorkas should be impeached because he knowingly disregarded the law and lied to Congress.

Green demanded action from the House on Tuesday, referring to Mayorkas as “the worst traitor.”

The Senate impeachment attempt is doomed because Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) may choose one of numerous routes to swiftly end the proceedings and avoid a speedy trial in which Mayorkas will almost certainly be found not guilty at all.

House Republicans are adamant that their strict border security legislation, H.R. 2, which was approved last year, must be the foundation for any upcoming negotiations regarding border security.

This indicates that Democrats will still have to deal with the issue of border security in the November election.
