(FamilyConservationPAC.com) – Just before a critical deadline for ballot printing, the U.S. Supreme Court partly sided with the Republican National Committee, preserving Arizona’s election integrity statute.
The 5-4 decision gave state officials the authority to reject state voter registration applications if potential voters could not produce citizenship documentation.

Along with liberal justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, Justice Amy Coney Barrett dissented.
Pre-SCOTUS decision explained:

A different portion of the statute, which purportedly would have prohibited registered voters from mailing in their ballots for president if they had not produced identification as evidence of citizenship, was, nevertheless, narrowly overturned by the court.
The decision is rendered shortly before Arizona’s deadline for printing ballots for the current election.
Although passed in 2022, the law has not yet been enacted.
Michael Whatley, the Republican Party chairman, called the decision a “huge win” for election integrity.
“The Supreme Court just ruled that the state of Arizona must REJECT state voter registration forms without proof of U.S. citizenship. This follows an emergency SCOTUS appeal from the RNC. A seismic win in the fight to stop non-citizens from voting,” he responded on X.
Democratic elections lawyer Marc Elias likewise hailed the decision as a Democratic triumph.
“U.S. Supreme Court REJECTS key parts of GOP motion to restore voter suppression law for 2024,” said Elias. “A MAJOR victory for voting rights and Arizona voters. Proud of the work my team did to secure a big court victory at this critical time.”
Should proof of citizenship be a requirement to vote in all elections?
