(FamilyConservationPAC.com) – The identity and history of the gunman who tried to kill former President Donald Trump on Saturday night at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, have been made public.
The gunman, identified by the F.B.I. as Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was not given any further details by the authorities.
His father, Matthew Crooks, told CNN he was trying to figure out “what the hell is going on” but would “wait until I talk to law enforcement” before speaking.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the F.B.I. said in a statement earlier Sunday.
This was the most significant attempt to kill a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981 while making his way to his motorcade after a speech in Washington, DC.
The attempted assassin was John Hinckley Jr.
After the March 1981 incident, Reagan recovered. His press secretary, James Brady, was one of the three other individuals shot, resulting in his partial paralysis.
According to the F.B.I., Crooks did not appear to have a criminal record in Pennsylvania’s open court records. Authorities also stated they have not determined a motive.
According to law enforcement sources who spoke with C.B.S. News, Crooks was carrying “an AR-style rifle.”
According to an F.B.I. statement:
“The F.B.I. has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania. This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is encouraged to submit photos or videos online at FBI.gov/butler or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.”
The lead F.B.I. agent, Special Agent Kevin Rojek, stated that since Crooks did not have identification on him, he had been recognized through D.N.A.
Crooks sent $15 to ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic and left-leaning politicians, when he was seventeen years old, according to a Federal Election Commission filing from 2021 that Reuters could view.
The Progressive Turnout Project, a nationwide organization that mobilizes Democrats to vote, was the designated recipient of the donation.
When the donation was made, Crooks was seventeen years old. In September of that same year, he turned eighteen. According to documents from the New York Post, he registered to vote as a Republican.
Details of state voter records Crooks was a Republican by registration. For Crooks, the impending election on November 5 would have been his first presidential election as an eligible voter.

As per Lt. Col. George Bevins of the Pennsylvania State Police via NBC addressing motives of the shooter, “It’s too soon to determine that. We have provisionally identified one shooter, but our investigation is ongoing. We are following multiple leads, and it will be some time before we can definitively state if it was the act of a single gunman.”
U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed the suspect on the spot, according to agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. He said that two bystanders were severely hurt, and one bystander was killed in the shooting.
